General

How much does it cost?

Living History Events is free to use... for spectators, groups and organisers alike. There's no charge to browse listings, leave a review, or add your own event or group.

Do I need an account to browse?

No... you can search and browse every event and group without signing in. You only need an account to leave a review, add your own listing, or use My Events.

How do I create an account?

Click "Sign In" and continue with your Google account. There's no separate password to create or remember.

I don't have a Google account and would like to sign in

Google is currently the only sign-in option. A free Google account only takes a couple of minutes to set up, and you don't need to start using Gmail day-to-day — it's just used to sign you in securely without needing a separate password. We know this doesn't suit everyone, and we're looking at adding further sign-in options in future.

What areas do you cover?

The whole UK — events and groups from anywhere in the country can be listed and searched by region.

What time periods do you cover?

Anything from Roman through to the Cold War, and everything between — Medieval, Viking, English Civil War, Napoleonic, Victorian, WW1, WW2, and more — plus a Multi-Period tag for events spanning several eras.

How often is the site updated?

Our goal is to keep improving the site based on feedback from spectators, groups, and organisers. We're already exploring ideas such as smarter event recommendations, richer group profiles, better filtering and comparison tools, and deeper community features. We want Living History Events to become the place where people don't just find events — they plan their season, share insight, and make better decisions about which events to attend. If there's something you'd love to see, we'd love to hear it.

For Spectators

Can I leave a review or rating?

Yes... sign in and you can rate any event out of five stars, with an optional written review. You don't need to write a review to leave a rating, or vice versa — though a written review does need a rating attached to it.

What's "My Events"?

A personal list of events you want to keep track of. Save any event you're interested in, and find them all together, split into Upcoming and Past on your My Events page.

How do I remove an event from My Events?

The "Save to My Events" button toggles off just as easily as it toggles on — click it again, either from the event's own page or directly from your My Events page, and it's removed straight away.

Do you sell tickets?

No... where an event has its own ticketing, we link straight through to the organiser's own site or ticket provider. Any purchase is between you and them.

I've spotted wrong information on a listing — what do I do?

Please contact us and let us know. Event and group details are supplied by organisers and by other users, so we rely on people flagging anything that's out of date or incorrect.

For Event Organisers & Reenactors

How do I add an event?

Sign in, then add your event — it takes about five minutes. It goes live immediately with an "Unverified" badge while we review it.

How do I add a living history group?

Sign in, then add your group — the same process as adding an event.

Can I add my solo act?

Yes... solo reenactors, performers, entertainers, duos and small acts are just as welcome as full groups. When you add your listing, select "Individual / Solo" as the size, and choose whichever category fits best... Singer, Entertainer, Impersonator, Speaker, and more are all options alongside Living History, Combat Reenactor, and Vehicle Display.

What does "Unverified" mean?

New listings go live straight away rather than sitting in a review queue — the "Unverified" badge just means we haven't checked it over yet. Once we have, it's replaced with a "Verified" badge.

Can I edit my listing after adding it?

Yes, for both events and groups — but only if you're the listing's owner, and only once you're signed in. On your event's page you'll see an "Edit / Duplicate Event" option, and on your group's page an "Edit Group" option — both are only visible to you as the owner. Either way, the name itself can't be changed there, so contact us if it needs renaming. Setting up the next edition of an annual event? Use "Duplicate" at the top of the event's edit page instead of starting fresh — it copies your existing details across and only asks for the new dates.

I'm the organiser of an event you've already listed — can I take it over?

Yes — start the ownership claim process here. You'll pick your event from a list, sign in, and tell us a bit about your connection to it. We review every claim by hand before approving it.
