The 40s Front

The 40s Front

We're a Dad and son who are budding reenactors and also the creators of this website. We attend living history events of all periods all over the UK but after learning about our Grandparents contributions in WW2 have taken to keeping their stories alive. I portray my Grandad who served with REME in the 21st Army Group. My son has a number of different WW2 and Cold War impressions including Chindits, Czech Independent Armoured Brigade, Malayan Emergency and 14th Army.

95th Rifles, 3rd Battalion

95th Rifles, 3rd Battalion

Our group of friends strive to recreate the 95th Rifles as accurately as possible, in an explosively entertaining way, whilst having a thoroughly good time! The re-enactment of Riflemen from this elite regiment of the Napoleonic era first began way back in the 1970s and was arguably epitomised by Richard Moore, who went on to become the Historical Advisor for the Sharpe TV series. Today, our members are spread across England and Wales and our events diary sees us pursuing adventure across the UK and overseas, during a season that generally runs from March to September. During our events we sleep under canvas tents or inside period fortifications, we cook and eat authentic rations and practice the drill and tactics that were refined over 200 years ago on battlefields across the Iberian Peninsular, France, Belgium and America. Being affiliated to the Napoleonic Association we often share our hobby with other groups, resulting in spectacular battles and unforgettable evenings around the campfire. If you like what you've read so far and are considering joining us, explore our website and discover what makes our society second to none. Whether your interest lies in experiencing the life and 'esprit de corp' of the Rifle Company or exploring the infinite possibilities amongst our camp followers, you'll find a welcome space by the fire for you and your family

The Historical Herbalists

The Historical Herbalists

The Historical Herbalists CIC bring the history of herbal medicine to life through immersive, hands-on living history displays, demonstrations and workshops. Portraying traditional healers, herbalists and apothecaries from Roman Britain and the Anglo-Saxon and Viking eras, through the Medieval and Renaissance periods, to the 17th, 18th and early 20th centuries, we explore medicinal plants native to the British Isles alongside those introduced through centuries of cultural exchange. The historically researched apothecaries feature authentic replica tools, reproduction manuscripts, traditional remedies, and living and foraged herbs, creating colourful, detailed and interactive displays. Our richly detailed historical apothecaries engage all the senses, featuring living and foraged medicinal plants, authentic replica tools, reproduction manuscripts, scrolls and traditional remedies. Drawing upon historical texts, archaeological evidence and experimental archaeology techniques, we explore the medicinal plants native to the British Isles alongside those introduced by the many peoples and cultures who shaped our healing traditions. With a particular passion for uncovering the often-overlooked histories of women and traditional healers, we offer an engaging, educational and interactive experience for visitors of all ages. We regularly collaborate with educational institutions, nature, and heritage organisations to deliver high-quality, historically informed events, workshops and immersive learning experiences.

1st Infantry Division Living History Group

1st Infantry Division Living History Group

The 1st Infantry Division Living History Group is one of the UK's longest-running and most established WWII living history groups, dedicated to portraying the men of E Company, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st US Infantry Division – the famous **“Big Red One”** – during the 1944–45 European Theatre of Operations. The 1st Infantry Division has a proud and distinguished history, serving in North Africa, Sicily and mainland Europe. Its men landed in the first wave on Omaha Beach on D-Day and fought through Normandy, France, Belgium and Germany. The Division saw fierce action in the Hürtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge, captured Aachen, the first major German city to fall to the Allies, and ended the war in Czechoslovakia. Throughout the year, E Company attends a varied programme of events across the UK, from local shows and historic venues to major multi-period living history events featuring hundreds of re-enactors and an impressive array of period military vehicles. Every event offers something different, bringing history to life for visitors of all ages. **We are living historians, not simply re-enactors.** Our aim is to portray the everyday life of the American GI as authentically as possible, recreating the experience of soldiers in the field through period-correct uniforms, weapons, equipment, camp life, training, military routines and socialising. We combine historical accuracy and education with a genuine sense of fun, friendship and camaraderie. Above all, we are a group of like-minded people who enjoy sharing an interest in WWII history, learning new skills, attending interesting events and making lasting friendships along the way. Whether we're setting up camp, demonstrating military equipment, talking to the public or enjoying the camaraderie around the camp, there's always something happening. Our mission is to educate, remember and honour the men of the Greatest Generation, ensuring their experiences and sacrifices are not forgotten. Interested in joining us, learning more about the history of the Big Red One, or simply coming along to see what we do? Visit our website or find us on Instagram and Facebook. Better still, come and visit our display at an event, have a chat and say, “Hi, Yank!”

4th Kompanie GD

4th Kompanie GD

4th Kompanie Groβdeutschland living history and reenactment group bases its impression around February 1945 when the elite Wacht-Battalion Berlin, a ceremonial sub-unit of the elite Groβdeutschland formation, deployed from its duties in Berlin to fight on the front around the Seelow Heights to the east of the city. Here it became engaged in fierce fighting defending the capital and its population from the Russian onslaught seeking revenge. It fought alongside a wide mix of units from other seasoned formations through to '2nd rate' and Volksturm detachments with every man fighting for his very survival. Portraying this particular period and time allows our display to incorporate a wide range of different things, from the elite men of GD wearing brand new M36s and still issued the very best of kit, through to the later issued 'ersatz' equipment. It also allows us to showcase our drill displays which would have been a crucial part of every soldiers' basic training, instilling in them a sense of kameraderie and discipline. We have a wide range of elements to our display, from a rear echelon camp, through to an impressive drill and firing display, as well as being able to take part in battle reenactments using authentic commands and manoeuvres with an Sdkfz 251c Halftrack, BMW R71 motorbikes and sidecars, and a whole assortment of weaponry.

Emma Mordue

I am a multi period entertainer that specialises in the music and dance of the 16th Century, but also happy from medieval to Victorian. I play early winds including shawms and bagpipes. I can be a first person character, such as a travelling player and am happy staying in character all event. I have 20 years experience of first person living history and am a professional musician. I can also bring period songs, plays and juggling. I have lots of musical colleagues and can provide a whole period band or a one person walkabout. Very happy teaching dancing and getting people involved! Equally happy at a Fayre or living history event, or running workshops for schools and museums.
